Position Summary

Provide leadership and curricular oversight of the administrative operations of the Institute of Fine Arts Academic Office. Oversee the implementation of the IFA's admissions and recruitment process for MA and PhD programs. Serve as liaison among the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS), Director of Masters Studies (DMS), Admission and Fellowship Committee, and Director of the Institute to ensure student success and efficient operations of the department that align with the academic calendar. Manage and track student admissions, enrollment, academic progress and graduation. Provide guidance and support to students and faculty and serve as a liaison between the IFA and other University departments to solve problems and enhance academic experience. Ensure compliance with academic policies and procedures. Evaluate current programs and make recommendations to IFA senior leadership. Supervise staff and prioritize assignments to ensure deadlines are met and review work for accuracy. Represent DGS and DMS at events and on committees and assist Director with implementation of new programs and curricula. Interpret University policies and procedures and implement and monitor departmental compliance.

Duties Include

  • Provide leadership and curricular oversight of administrative operations in the Academic office. Partner with senior leadership to establish operational and curricular policies and practices in conjunction with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). Oversee the implementation of the Institute's admissions and recruitment process for MA and PhD programs. Coordinate with IFA faculty and GSAS on online applications, procedures and decisions. Serve on a variety of School and University committees to assist faculty with development and dissemination of academic policies, practices and curricula. Build relationships with other schools to broaden academic opportunities for IFA students. Represent the Institute on GSAS matters and doctoral consortium institutions. Assist DGS and DMS with academic planning, policy development and evaluation of curricular and academic programs with the Department of Art History and the Consortium. In collaboration with the Director, DGS and DMS, direct and review course offerings and faculty and course evaluations. Strategize with senior leadership to develop short and long term objectives for the School i.e., recruitment and enrollment planning, student retention, management of student fellowship application process, special awards and summer travel. Direct nominations for outside fellowships. Serve as a member of the Institute's Faculty Fellowship Committee. Serve as liaison for the Director, DGS and DMS and Faculty Advisory Committee. Resolve faculty and student issues and make recommendations to the Director and DGS for process improvements and new initiatives. Collaborate with HR Officer to track faculty leave schedules, committee assignments and responsibilities. Represent Academic Office at Department Head meetings

  • Manage graduate and degree completion processes, facilitating efficient transitions for both incoming and graduating students. Work collaboratively with the DGS and DMS, as well as the Director, in assessing graduate student recruitment needs, teaching assignments, and academic integrity. Oversee maintenance of confidential files and records, including staffing of courses. Assess academic progress of students; report degree progress to program leadership, interpreting and presenting valuable trends; resolve problems relating to graduation and degree completion; supervise compilation of statistical information and generate reports regarding enrollment, programs, admissions, and applications for school use. Participate in discussions regarding enrollment management

  • Serve as leader and team manager. Develop and implement office policies and procedures to effectively meet changing department needs. Supervise administrative and support staff and manage staff performance. Assist staff with prioritizing work. Provide direction to the Academic Advisor on student advisement to ensure fulfillment of academic requirements.

  • Provide leadership of recruitment events, new student orientation and graduation. Develop programs and activities for current students' professional development, including employment and internship outreach, and promote outside fellowship opportunities. Approve the development and production of print and electronic materials (academic standards and requirements) for the IFA website. Develop, implement, oversee and report on special projects as assigned by the Director. Prepare academic reports for Annual Strategic Plan and IFA Board of Trustees.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's Degree in Higher EducationPreferred Education:Master's Degree in Higher EducationRequired Experience:5+ years relevant experience, including experience with academic program development, planning and implementing administrative activities, course scheduling, counseling/advising students and supervising staff.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Understanding of higher education and research and the role of knowledge in public affairs. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written communication and presentation skills. Ability to market programs, solve problems and interact with individuals at all levels. Detail-oriented data collection and analysis skills. Proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Ability to supervise staff and work in a high volume, fast paced and deadline driven environment.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $105,000.00 to USD $125,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
